Alternative Sources on Shaming as Punishment

I don't want to harp on the continuing series on shaming as punishment going on at the enjoyable Prawfsblawg. However, John Braithwaite's extensive work on restorative shaming should be the starting point for the topic, and I don't think I've seen him mentioned, much less discussed. As a result, the discussion is still at that "how many pins can stick into the head of an angel?" stage. This strikes me as an even better example than sentencing guidelines of how much legal scholarship would benefit from mutual immersion in the social science literature and research. You can find Braithwaite's works on the topic here, and here's where you can find actual research on it.
