Let’s just make sure we understand. You can be so retarded as to be incompetent for trial, what evidence there is against you can be extraordinarily suspect, be gathered by cops later convicted of corruption, and lost by the sheriff’s office, and your “confession” can be a curiously coherent and articulate narrative for a guy with a 50 I.Q., and yet you can be held in jail for 14 years because the DA wants to. I’m actually somewhat sympathetic to the DA here because he probably just didn’t want to be hammered on a front page someday and pulled the old CYA. But still, 14 years before you’re set free? In America? Tell James Madison that’s what he set up.
