A couple of kind people in recent weeks have tipped me off to Crime & Justice News, a website of the Criminal Justice Journalists’ News Center. It’s a great repository of recent news stories on the whole range of crim just issues, including corrections sentencing. To whet your whistle (since I said “whet,” will that up my blog to “Genius” in that blog rating service?), here are some good corr sent pieces available there right now: one on a judge who uses shaming for misdemeanants in Baltimore, another on a church-rehab program in Minneapolis (have to register to get it), and a pair of contradictory stories—one with the fed drug czar claiming that his success in restricting drug flow is causing crimes to rise in other areas and one from Houston where the police chief wonders “what success in restricting drug flow?” because he’s sure not seeing it in his city or in nearby El Paso, right there along the successful policy border. Hmm, that sounds like the feds could be hyping and distorting in their news releases. That just couldn’t be possible, could it? They’ve never done that in drug policy before. In any case, it’s a great resource and you should check it out if you get a chance.
