Actual Self-Governance and Crime Prevention

Prevention Works has a nice post up on the benefits to communities and crime prevention of adult mentors of juveniles. This is baseline prevention of future crime at its best. I would add that many states have mentor programs, usually but not always through faith-based communities, that unite amenable offenders and outside mentors to help steer through those initial days of reentry. It’s hard to think of anything that is more rewarding to both the community and to the volunteer. Check out the post and see what you can do.
