Those with multiple drunk driving convictions would be forced to keep bright yellow license plates with red lettering on their vehicles under a bill before the General Assembly.
The bill would require people with three or more DUI convictions to keep the plates on their cars for five years after getting their licenses back.
The bill is sponsored by Delegate Lionell Spruill. The Chesapeake Democrat says the plates will send a clear signal to other drivers that they should be cautious around the offender's vehicle. He likened the measure to publicizing the addresses of repeat child molesters.
Spruill filed a similar bill last year but it died in committee.
