• If you want to know why the current incarceration trends are untenable and probably will hit a limit of their own, belly up to Grits for Breakfast’s bar and go through his post on the trends showing that TX could hit around 900,000 prisoners by 2030. He has his own usual mild and totally unopinionated take on the topic as well.
• While you’re bellying up to bars, go by Think Outside the Cage’s place and wish them Happy Birthday. They do some of our best work and on a regular and consistent basis. Their voices have been welcome and we hope they stick around for at least another congratulations in a year.
• Very insightful and telling catch at Real Cost of Prisons on foundations and project funding. We need to be more aware of how this all works because sometimes the foundations’ strategies, while perfectly rational from the organization’s point of view and accountability, do not set the long term goals or fund the long-term initiatives whose payoff comes less directly or immediately. This is clearly a major need in corrections sentencing.
• Finally, the problem of aging prisoners comes to UT apparently. Short but telling article that you can use to compare your own state with. I'm sure yours is all right.
