We Just Live on Myths

One of the oldest stories in our social psych world is that of the murder of Kitty Genovese and how 38 witnesses heard her screams and did nothing to help her. It's helped to feed a social mentality that leaves us feeling helpless and demanding even more restrictions on our communities. "You better keep those bas--rds in prison or you could be like Kitty. If they're not behind bars, you can't expect help or protection."

Turns out the story's not true.
