For My Vegetarian Corr Sent Friends

Prison food has traditionally gotten a bad rap, but you won't hear many complaints from vegetarians and vegans who are serving time in Idaho.

Idaho tops PETA's list of the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly State Prison Systems, according to recently completed research.

The lentil shepherd's pie, vegan pizza, soy sausage and veggie meatballs and an assortment of vegan cookies, cakes, pies and puddings have inmates asking for seconds, according to the survey.

"Whenever you see convicted criminals turning away from a violent animal-based diet, it's a good sign," said PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich. "We commend Idaho for helping to protect its inmates' health and deeply held beliefs."

Massachusetts - with its mock-chicken cutlets, nuggets, and stew as well as the standby veggie burger - locked up second place. New Hampshire, Georgia, Utah, Hawaii, Tennessee, Kansas and North Dakota rounded out the top 10. Each state will receive a framed certificate and a letter of appreciation from PETA.
