Interesting Media Experiment in OR

In a rare media event, virtually every TV station in Oregon will broadcast a documentary tonight that is intended to keep kids from getting hooked on methamphetamine.“Crystal Darkness,” which will air at 7:30 p.m., was created by two businessmen from Nevada and became a phenomenon when it was shown on multiple TV stations in Reno and Las Vegas. Calls from addicts in those cities who wanted to quit, and friends and family members of those hooked on the drug, flooded in to phone banks. Law enforcement, public health and other agencies took note.

Tonight, Corvallis law enforcement agencies along with the Benton County Health Department are encouraging people to watch. Corvallis Police Lt. Dave Henslee said he hopes people will call in to a phone bank set up in Portland, not just to get information but also to report suspected drug houses.
